A 60-year old widower was found stabbed to death in his Harvey home Tuesday morning, and Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies are searching for a motive and suspects in the parish's third homicide in two days.

Ray Babin was found dead with a kitchen knife in his throat about 9:35 a.m. at his home at 2124 Missile St. in the Spanish Oaks subdivision by his brother, according to Col. Robert Garner, a spokesman for the Sheriff's Office.

Babin's body was discovered after his relatives and his employer became concerned when they did not hear from him for about three days. Babin, who lived alone, worked as a telemarketer from his home.

Garner said there was no evidence of a struggle and or that someone forced their way into the house. The home was locked when relatives arrived and Babin's car was missing from the driveway. Garner said deputies are looking for a gold 2001 Buick LeSabre with license plate IBR337.

Neighbors described Babin as a quiet man who kept to himself after his wife's death a few years ago. They said there was no indication that he was embroiled in a dispute with anyone and there hadn't been any arguments at the home recently. A relative said Babin celebrated his birthday about a week ago.

Sylvia Coldwell, who lives near Babin, said his death is troubling because the neighborhood is typically so quiet.

"It's a hard thing to accept," said Coldwell, who described the neighborhood as the ideal place to raise a family. "You just don't know how to react."

In an unrelated incident, Garner released the identity of a man killed during what initially appeared to be a home invasion in Avondale on Monday night. Johnell Carr, 25, was shot to death in the 200 block of Travis Drive shortly before 7:45 p.m. after deputies say he tried to force his way into a home armed with a handgun.

Garner said that after executing a search warrant at the home, deputies found distribution-level quantities of marijuana and cocaine, along with several assault rifles and handguns. Consequently, investigators now believe Carr was trying to rob people in the house of narcotics, and they wrestled away his gun and killed him.

Garner said no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting, but deputies did arrest Denorice Beverly, 24, in connection with the narcotics and weapons found at the home.

Earlier Monday, a three-day feud between two men about the payment for a broken pickup truck window resulted in the death of an Ama man in Avondale. Kenneth Musgrove, 24, was shot outside 173 Dialita Drive, the home of Michael Glaub, 23. Glaub was arrested at the scene and booked with second-degree murder, said Col. John Fortunato of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
